University Tutor and UMAT

University TutorUniversity Tutor focuses on the academic language required to be successful at a tertiary institution in New Zealand. Students generally wish to gain the necessary English skills to be successful at university and not necessily the minimum entry level.

This course focuses on teaching English skills as well as study skills for university or polytechnic. Students in this course will recieve help in academic essay writing, formating, presentation skills and listening skills.

This course is particularly beneficial to those studying or intending to study Health Sciences at university. We have had great success in tutoring students through Health Science subjects at Otago University.

Times for students at university are flexible. Generally there will be courses running in the evenings during the course of the university year. Students wishing to study for university English can take daytime courses.

UMAT

The part time UMAT classes run during the year and have a maximum of six students per class. Classes are designed to fit the timetables of university students and generally run after 3.30 on most days of the week.

Classes mainly focus on Part One of the test (Logical Reasoning) but we do cover Parts Two and Three. Each class runs for two hours once a week and there are 12 classes.

We DO NOT supply materials to students and these classes are not designed as cram classes. Skills obtained from the UMAT classes are applicable to all university courses.

Materials: WE do not sell UMAT materials or endorse any particular UMAT book. A search of the Internet will very quickly provide you with information on which books are available.
