General English Courses
English For Speakers of Other Languages
At English Advantae we have students from all around the world who join us to improve their English. You can Join us full time (25 hours per week) or part time in the mornings or afternoons.
Each of these levels lasts for 16 weeks. Each week will consist of 25 contact hours. Students will be required to learn specific grammar skills in varied contextual situations.
Certificate of English Proficiency for Academic Purposes
Elementary - Level 1
In this course students will be introduced to elementary English. Students enrolled at this level take a combination of courses addressing the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of this course students will have a basic knowledge of English grammatical structures and be able to produce simple English discourse and would be ready to sit the Cambridge KET EXAM. This course will form the basis for further study in either a secondary or tertiary context. .
Intermediate Level - Level 2Students will build on the grammatical and vocabulary of the Elementary course. Students enrolled at this level take a combination of courses addressing the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of this course students will have expanded their passive and active knowledge of grammar and will be able to produce discursive work with a greater level of complication and confidence. They would be ready to sit the Cambridge PET EXAM and we would expect them to achieve an IELTS overall band score of 5.
Upper Intermediate - Level 2
This course brings in higher academic writing/speaking/ready/listening skills and requires students to increase their active vocabulary in a more formal context. At the end of this course students would be able to sit the Cambridge FCE EXAM and we would expect them to achieve an IELTS overall band score of 5.5.
Advanced Level - Level 3
In this course students will build on the grammatical and vocabulary of the Intermediate Course. Students enrolled in the Advanced level address the four skills areas of listening in academic contexts, speaking in formal settings, reading academic and daily discursive text and writing in academic contexts. By completing this course students will have the skills necessary for negotiating academic discourse in tertiary settings. They would be ready to sit the Cambridge CAE EXAM and we would expect them to achieve an IELTS overall band score of 7.
Certificate in Academic critical Discourse
Advanced Level - Level 4
This Course is designed for student wishing to gain Band Scores into the 8 Range of IELTS or those who require critical thinking and academic skills for university or higher learning.
